Summer Psalms - On Psalm 19

July 19, 2022

Pray for Illumination

Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 19

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  Psalms 19:1

I don't think I have ever used the term “gaga” at any point in my life, however after reading Psalm 19, I have to admit that I may be tempted to say that this Psalmist is gaga for God! He opens with an eloquent praise of the Creator’s handiwork in creation and then goes on to describe how perfect and trustworthy the laws of God are:

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.  19:10

The Psalmist then concludes this praise prayer with “I hope all of what I am saying and thinking pleases you!” (my paraphrase).  But as beautifully written are these descriptive words of God’s works, they only seem to be the foundation for God’s most beautiful work – that is within the hearts of you and me!

Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. 19:13

Do you desire God’s sanctifying work in your life?  Ask God to finish the beautiful work begun in you through Christ.  Invite the Master Redeemer and Creator to place his signature on every part of your life today and that the “words of your mouth and this meditation of your heart be pleasing in His sight… your Rock and your Redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)
