Summer Psalms - On Psalm 27

July 28, 2022

Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 27

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.  Psalms 27:10

I remember a time in my life, while attending college, I experienced such an emotional crisis that I decided to drop everything for a couple days just so I could go and be with my parents.  A confession...  I was already married with two kids at this point.  And yet, I was in such distress that the only place I wanted to be was with my parents.  So I packed up the family into the car and we drove the few hours to see my mom and dad.  It was where I knew that no matter what was going on in my life, I would be safe with them.

Parents.  The people in our lives that should always be on our side.  Unfortunately that is not always true for everyone.  But the Psalmist knows that even if mom and dad fail us, God will not.

The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?   Psalms 27:1

Unfortunately many people experience the failure of relationships that should be “strongholds” in our lives.  Or we may lose someone who had always been there for us when we needed support.  Today, we are reminded that there is One whom we can always depend on to show up and be there for those who seek refuge in Him:

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.  Psalms 27:14

When you pray through faith in Jesus Christ, you have found a beautiful stronghold that will always be there.

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.  Psalms 27:4
