Summer Psalms - On Psalm 37

August 9, 2022

Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 37

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.   Psalms 37:3

Trust me.  You will be OK.  As a parent, I have used those words with my kids on occasion.  But I don’t want them to have to be told and convinced everyday.  My hope is that my love and past actions (and their mother's) have given them reason to always trust us (Except maybe when I throw a piece of lint in the air and shout “spider!”).

But even more so with God.  He is completely worthy of our trust.  And trust in God is more than a mental assent to God’s own goodness.   It leads us to “do good” – to live out our lives daily trusting in God and obeying His commands.  It means to use our lives to help others along, leading them to Christ and helping them grow in that relationship.  It means we are not afraid to point others to God with our lives because we know and trust in God’s love and mercy.

When you say that you trust in God, how has that been reflected in the way that you listen to His instructions?   Does your life reflect a deep trust in Christ as your Lord and Saviour?  Or maybe there are areas where you have yet to trust God with.

As you pray today, allow God to show you the places that you fail to trust Him with.  Ask God to give you a faith that leads you to daily obedience.  Rest in him and know that he is God.  A very good God!

Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
    your vindication like the noonday sun.   Psalm 37:5-6
