Summer Psalms - On Psalm 40

August 12, 2022

Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 40

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
Psalms 40:2

Next week is Kidz Camp for our district churches and I, once again, get to be part of the week-long camp as one of the leaders.  I am looking forward to all the exciting games and activities the kids will get to experience and the opportunity to learn about God’s love. There is so much to do and new friendships to discover.  Of course there is also the scenic beauty of Camp Kakawa – the sunrises, mountain landscape, and starry nights!  But there is also the slimy lake bottom that I will try to avoid.  It is so bad that when you step into it, your feet sink down deep and all you can think about is the muck that you are standing in!
I can think of other times that I have been in the “pits” of life but have also experienced, like the Psalmist, a beautiful experience of the Lord’s help. No longer does your entire focus revolve around the mucky pit you were standing in, but now you can turn your eyes onto the beautiful things that God has given to you in your life.

Maybe today you can take some time to remember when God has lifted you out of the “pits” and set your feet on more solid ground.  Thank Jesus for saving your soul from the muck of sin.  And then praise him for the beautiful gifts he has given you!

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
