Summer Psalms - On Psalm 41

August 13, 2022

Pray for Illumination - Heavenly Father, help me to know your ways; teach me your paths and lead me into your truth. Amen.

Read Psalm 41

The Lord… restores them from their bed of illness.  Psalms 41:3

This is a beautiful Psalm written by David at a time in his life when it seems that everything - his health, his neighbors, even his closest friend – is against him.  The beauty in this Psalm is not only that it speaks of the mercy of God,  but that it also reminds us of the One who faced all of this and more on our behalf.  As you read these words of Psalm 41, think of how they connect to the life of Christ:

My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish?” When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around. All my enemies whisper together against me…  Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me. But may you have mercy on me, Lord; raise me up, that I may repay them. I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.  Psalm 5-7, 9-12

Whatever you are facing today, know that Jesus understands what you are going through.  Know that he also is the One who will “raise you up” with Him. Praise His Name!

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.  Psalms 41:13
